Search Engine Marketing

A search engine is a device in the Internet that helps users in their search for specific or items in general. Some examples of a search engine are Google, Yahoo Search and MSN Search. These are the primary search engine used by users to locate specific items or names or any other thing that they want to locate. Search engines can also localize searches to images, local searches (usually where the user is located) and vertical searches engines (industry specific). The Search Engine Optimization often considers a specific websites presentation, coding, structure and ability to fix problems in how they rank a site. Ranking a site means where the site appears. The earlier the website appears in a search page, the more frequently it is visited or clicked by users. This makes it a much-optimized site. Some sites are optimized to suit the preference of the owner or site administrator.

We should not employ spamdexing in search engine optimization as this could blacklist the site from the search engine list. Spamdexing means to fill the site with too much meta-tags and content rich in keywords to ensure that it is in the primary group when searched. Tactics like these could strike us off the search engine list temporarily or even for good. Adding keyword rich content to our site to make it more appealing to the search engines robots is one way of ensuring that we appear in the first pages of the search results but going overboard can really turn off a user from using the search engine since the user will believe that the search engine can not distinguish too well between website fluff and relevant sites.

We will need to conform to the search engines’ guidelines and rules in order to do favorably in the searches. Once the search engines find out that we are being crafty or wily regarding the use of search engine optimization, they will strike us off their lists and users will have a hard time searching for us unless they are aware of the domain name so they can go directly there. What we should do regarding search engine optimization is to provide keyword rich content not for the search engines to classify but for the users to look for. In other words, the content of the site must be relevant to users in order for them to continue using the site.

Search engine optimization of a certain website does not necessarily mean more sales or business transactions. For us to have a successful internet business we need not only appear on the first pages of a search result but we should also have paid advertising in search engines and other websites, have premium quality content in the webpage or website and we must also have a good maintenance schedule for the website to optimize spiders and crawlers. In other words, there must also be an effort on the part of the business owner to make the site more appealing to the visitors and more attractive to the search engines.
